Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Horace Mann Students worked together to raise $1,293.43!

Candy Split
Students and Staff brought in half of their Halloween candy to donate to Veteran's Hospital. 
5 large boxes full of sweets were delivered.

Make a Wish Foundation
Students wrote letters to Santa.  For every letter to Santa, Macy's gave $1 to Make a Wish Foundation.  HM Students write approximately 200 letters.

Juvenile Arthritis

Assembly and kick-off of Awareness campaign for JA will be held January 18th. 

A former HM Teacher taught second grade about Arthritis.  She read a book about it- "Taking Arthritis to School", used a skeleton to demonstrate how joints were affected, and explained how arthritis affects her husband.

Math lessons in K-5 to calculate money collected as well as money needed to reach a predetermined goal.

Middle School Social Studies and Math combined forces for students to make a Demographic Map of children living with JRA and Pediatric Rheumatologist.



Valentines Letters

Eight classes joined together to write more than 175 Valentine’s letters to soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan.



Book-Ends Drive

Kick-off Feb. 23rd 

Sorting: March. 5, Delivery March 14th.

We will be supporting L.A. Elementary school.

The goal is to collect over 2,000 books to donate on February 29th.

to help disadvantaged kids attending Summer Camp.

INTRO to Horace Mann Community SERVICE (CS)
Community Service raises awareness about civic responsibility. Horace Mann
offers an array of events and opportunities throughout the year for its student
community to get involved. Middle School Students achieve a certificate: 6th
& 7th graders need to complete 10 hours, 8th graders obtain a certificate & a
gold seal if they complete 15 hours. K-5th grade students too can work
towards a certificate of achievement if they participate in 8 or more
Community Service Events

Horace Mann Extra Lunch Program-Show Your Heart
Every year Horace Mann participates in a
“Feed the Homeless Program” with Westside
Food Bank. We ask that all students in
grades 1-5 participate by bringing an extra
lunch on the dates listed below. Students will
take a paper lunch bag home on the day
before the drive takes place. Lunches
should be comprised of NON-PERISHABLE

2/9 & 2/10, 3/1&3/2, 4/5&4/6, 5/3&5/4

Note to Middle School Students:
Middle School students obtaining Community Service hours need to fill out a card, which can be
obtained in the main office Community Service Mail Box or through Ms. Rogers. We will have CS
opportunities on the following early release days at 2:30: 10/18, 11/22, 1/10, 2/14, 3/22 & 5/1
