Character Counts at Horace Mann - September

For the month of September, Horace Mann students are focusing on two of John Wooden’s traits from his Pyramid of Success.  Students will learn about hard work and enthusiasm.

HARD WORK - “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”

Preparing for Success means you must work hard. Are you preparing to Succeed or preparing to fail? If you are looking for the easy way, a short cut or trick you are preparing to fail because success requires old-fashioned hard work. Remember: Only you know if you are working as hard as you can.

ENTHUSIASM - “Make each day special.”

You have to like what you're doing to do what you like at your highest level. Your heart must be in it. Without Enthusiasm you can't achieve your fullest potential. Hard Work combined with Enthusiasm is your powerful engine.

Please continue to teach these concepts at home.  We want every student to reach their greatest potential.  Teaching each of these traits will help them understand what their very “best” should encompass.  Legendary Coach John Wooden taught his basketball players at UCLA that  “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of becoming.”
