Principal’s Corner - December 2017

Construction Update

As we near the end of the first semester, we look forward to the opening of our new building and campus.  In January, students can look forward to the administrative office, counseling services, and the cafeteria being located in the new building.  We will send out more specific communication towards the end of December.  Teachers will prepare students and give them tours of the new building once it is open.

Playground Safety

In collaboration with BHPD, an assembly took place on 11/29 with Elementary School  to help our students understand safe playground play.  Officer Frias, teachers and the principals spoke to students about being kind, inclusive, and respectful of one another and our campus.  Middle School will have an assembly in January on this topic including anti-bullying.

Playground Equipment

Balls and hoola hoops have been purchased from Fun Run Money and students will have plenty of access to play outdoors.  Thank you PTA for your support!  Once the balls have arrived, we would like students to leave their personal equipment at home. This will ensure their safety in walking to school. Structured games on the field will be introduced once the equipment arrives to include all children.

John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success

At Horace Mann, we work together to help students cultivate good character.

In John Wooden's Pyramid of Success, December is Self-Control and Determination Month.

In John Wooden’s book, A Lifetime of Observations, he defined Self-Control as, “Essential for discipline and mastery of emotions…” He defined Determination as, “The ability to stay the course and resist temptation….”

Please help your children develop a growth mind-set. Support the positive actions that your children take.  Every challenge that they overcome and every journey take bring them closer to how Wooden defined success,  “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable of being.”
