February 2018 Feature Teacher

Name:  Molly Morales

Role:  5th Grade Teacher

Years at Horace Mann: Began January 2018

Originally from Southern California, I grew up in Tennessee where my parents and two brothers still live. I came back to San Diego for college where I met my husband, Nathan. My husband and I live in Downtown LA and enjoy walking to new restaurants and exploring the city!

I come to Horace Mann with five years of teaching experience in private and public schools. I taught middle school math at Huntington Christian School in Huntington Beach and Kindergarten in at Metro Charter Elementary School in Downtown Los Angeles. I was involved in those school communities by participating in school site council and after school tutoring, as well as leading peer learning communities within the teaching team. Next year I will be applying to UCLA’s Graduate school Principal Leadership Institute program in which I will be working towards a Master’s degree in education.

I will bring my passion for math and technology, my love of learning and my enthusiasm for teaching to the classroom every day. I am looking forward to preparing your students for middle school. I cannot wait to meet the students and to be involved with the community.

After the school day ends you may find me reading, practicing yoga, running, hiking, or jumping in the ocean.

In my class I have started community circle; a time that the students and I get to know each other, evaluate ourselves and how our class is going. It is also a time to practice leadership skills and listening and speaking skills. Students are very excited about the day when it is their turn to lead community circle.

I have been working hard to integrate all of our great technology at Horace Mann into our lessons and it has been very fun and exciting for my students and me!
