Current Curriculum

Kindergarteners will be taught the sound of each letter of the alphabet spending extra time on vowel sounds. Students begin to blend words with a goal of 90% of students reading by the end of their kindergarten year. Kindergarteners will be taught proper letter formation using The Handwriting Without Tears program. Students are engaged in many forms of writing formal and informal. There are many opportunities for kindergarten students to use their best guess spelling to write in journals, create stories and participate in guided writing lessons.
In math students learn to count and recognize numbers to 30 using one to one correspondence. Students do simple computation and practice using their critical thinking and geometry skills.
Kindergarteners also participate in a number of social studies and science lessons throughout the year with a focus on real world connections.
Students also participate in art, music and computer lessons each week.
